Watercress is a perennial creeping shoots that form deep in water, then the hollow stems that rise above the water at the end of branches. The stems are spreading, even lying on the ground or water bodies. They can exceed two meters long. They emit easily adventitious roots at the nodes. The emerging leaves are pinnate and fleshy, alternate, dark green, fitted with a long petiole. They consist of five oval leaflets more or less rounded, the terminal leaflet is larger than the others.

Watercress is grown either in the ground or along rivers or in cressonières. Nursery sowing in a soil moisture maintained. The seedlings are planted in a soil rich in humus, acid-free and watered daily. Harvesting leaves may begin one month after transplanting.
